Huntstown power station
The company has invested heavily, demonstrating its commitment to the Irish energy
market, and has the newest gas fired power plant available in the market.

Energia's long term commitment is reflected in the development of the 744MW power
station with enough supply capacity for 200,000 businesses. The second phase completed
in autumn 2007, delivered a €500m investment by the company.
- The Huntstown Power Plant Project began in 1997, as the Viridian Group's direct
response to Ireland’s rapidly growing demand for electrical energy.
- Huntstown Power Company was formed to be the first truly Independent Power Producer
(IPP) in Ireland.
- Huntstown a Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant was developed in two phases
consisting of a Siemens 343 MW multi-shaft design and a Mitsubishi 401 MW single
shaft configuration burning natural gas with distillate oil as a back up fuel source.
- The use of a multi-shaft and single shaft designs for Phase 1 & 2 respectively
has allowed for flexibility in operation while maintaining the highest levels of
energy conversion.
- The Phase 1 Siemens V94.3(A)1 343 MW power module started commercial operation in
November 2002 on time and budget.
- It is among the most efficient and technically advanced plants in the Irish electricity
system and has a key role to play in meeting Ireland's Kyoto commitments.
- The Phase 2 Mitsubishi 701F 401 MW power module was completed in autumn 2007
- The combined output of the Huntstown Power Plant of 744MW will provide up to 17
per cent of the total electricity fed into the national grid system
