Electricity & Gas Supply
Energia is the retail arm of the Viridian Group in the deregulated markets throughout Ireland.
It has a strong track record in not only being the first to the new market but also helping in developing a whole new electricity market throughout Ireland. The Single Electricity Market (SEM) came into life on 1 November 2007 with the company playing a major role in its development.
Energia supply both electricity and gas to a wide range of customers and currently have over 35 000 customers.
- Energia is the largest independent energy supply company on the island of Ireland
- It is a licensed by the Commission for Energy Regulation as; an electricity supplier and was the first supplier in the deregulated market, and a gas Shipper/Supplier having received one of the first of such licences in 2002
- Energia’s power plant at Huntstown was the first truly Independent Power Producer (IPP) in Ireland.
- Energia is part of the Viridian Group which has invested over €500 million building two gas fired power stations outside Dublin to assist Ireland in meeting its growing electricity demand
- This investment demonstrates Viridian’s clear commitment to Ireland and to bringing about the real benefits of competition to customers by offering real choice
- Energia supply electricity and gas to non domestic premises throughout Ireland
- Energia utilises its specialist procurement team to purchase a portfolio of power from conventional fossil fuel stations and renewable energy from wind farms throughout the island
- Energia has been buying and selling gas for use in Ireland since the first quarter of 2002 for its power stations and its retail gas business
- Energia has been successfully growing its retail gas business steadily over a number of years and today is the gas supplier of choice to over 25% of the largest gas users in Ireland
- Energia’s commitment to the environment is demonstrated by its investment of €550M in new wind farms over the next few years
