Energy Efficiency Solution: Liquid Pump Refrigerant
Business Problem
Founded in 1932 O'Kane Poultry is a family-owned business that strives to offer the consumer value for money, while maintaining the highest standards of product quality and customer care. The group operates two feed mills, three hatcheries, three processing plants and employs over 2000 people encompassing both chicken and turkey production, and produces over 500 different product lines. In today's business environment rising energy costs and carbon emissions are a real issue. Although their existing refrigeration system was operating within its design parameters O'Kane's saw the opportunity to reduce their cooling costs by introducing liquid refrigerant pumping technology.
Solution
Installing a centrifugal pump on the liquid refrigerant pumping system has given refrigeration systems capacity boosts while saving electrical energy. Hysave Refrigeration pump combines unique patented designs that achieves the desired "floating head pressure". This technology is used to increase refrigeration capacity while saving substantial amounts of energy. Recognised world-wide, Floating Head Pressure technology allows for refrigeration or chiller equipment to operate at low condensing pressures and higher energy efficiencies. The Hysave solution provides the only means available to guarantee proper liquid refrigerant delivery at these conditions.
Explanation
The pump will:
  1. Reduce energy costs because pumping liquid refrigerant is up to 40 times more efficient than using head pressure from the compressor to do the same work
  2. Eliminate liquid line flashing by overcoming line pressure losses
  3. Increase Evaporator capacity and improve refrigeration effect.
  4. Lower compression ratios and increase compressor life
