Energy Efficiency Solution: High Bay Lighting
Founded in 1952 and part of the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company (CCHBC) since
2000, Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland is Ireland's leading soft drinks company, it employs
700 staff directly and hundreds more indirectly contributing an estimated €120 million
to the Irish economy. With its headquarters and a bottling and distribution facility
on the Naas Road in Dublin, Coca-Cola Bottlers Ireland also has a number of regional
distribution depots countrywide.

Original Installation consisted of 85 * 400 watt Metal Halide fittings, the connected
load was 38.2 kW with no controls gave a lighting level of 80 lux. A number of fittings
were in the wrong location, natural daylight was not being utilised and lights were
always left on. The workload in the store varied but lights remained on in the unoccupied
aisles resulting in high maintenance costs as the useful life of a metal halide
lamp is about 6000 hours.
- Solution

The new installation consists of 50 Patina AS400 fittings, connected load is now
11kW. The improved location of the fittings has resulted in the lux levels in the
aisles being increased to 150 lux. The maximum electrical loading of the new fittings
is 50% that of the Metal Halide fittings. A further 25% savings was achieved from
'daylight linking' and occupancy detection on the new installation.

Estimated annual savings is €24,000. Both management and staff working in the warehouse
are very enthusiastic about the new installation.
